Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Robi Ludwig, a psychotherapist, TV commentator/Host, and author based in New York, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I usually tell people I have three jobs. I’m a psychotherapist in private practice, a psychology TV commentator, and an author. I also created and host a show on Facebook Watch called Talking Live with Dr. Robi Ludwig and a podcast by the same name. My customers are those in the entertainment space or companies who are interested in sharing psychological information and people who are interested in mental health services and achieving psychological well-being.

Tell us about yourself

I don’t know if I started out thinking of myself as an entrepreneur. I wanted to have a private practice, which I started over 25 years ago. Then I became a psychological expert on TV and an Author. Each aspect of my career worked to serve each area of my work life. I developed my brand before I even knew what branding was. I have always been motivated by a deep love and passion for my field. I love working with patients, doing psychological commentary on TV, and of course, writing. As the world moved into a more digital arena, I wanted to create a show that could highlight other personalities who were also sharing their talents and passion with the world. I’m very fortunate I found my professional passion early in life. It has made my life feel both purposeful and exciting.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I suppose my biggest business accomplishment is doing what I do, a job that offers me a high enough profile to reach many people while earning a nice living. I realize not everyone can achieve this goal.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Businesses change over time. Nothing stays the same. So, over the years, I have had to learn how to pivot in order to stay relevant and to continue to keep my business and future work opportunities open for me.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Go for what you love.
  2. Give yourself an opportunity to learn as you go along.
  3. Networking and maintaining quality relationships are a must.
