What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm an Integral Master Coach. It's a powerful mix of life coaching and leadership coaching that focuses on guiding clients through changes at the level of their way of being. My clients are experienced professionals who feel a calling to live lives of greater purpose and impact.

Tell us about yourself

My work integrates several passions in my life. I'm an alum of four service programs and have led service trips to places like Ghana, Honduras, and Ukraine. I've got a doctorate in leadership from Harvard and am deeply engaged in the study and practice of leadership. When I found myself coaching servant leaders seeking to run for office from every level, from Congress to school board, through my work, I decided to get my coaching certification. I discovered Integral coaching and loved the mix of rigorous use of human development theory with highly intuitive and creative ways of relating with clients. I ended up continuing all the way through Master-level certification in that model and now maintain a private coaching practice alongside my day job of bringing more servant leaders into politics.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I've seen clients make major changes in their lives: Examples include starting a new business, ending a toxic relationship, deciding to run for Congress, and living with new levels of joy and purpose on a sustained basis. Being a part of those journeys of transformation is the reason why I became a coach.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Business development is always a challenge. I love coaching and am always learning more about how to grow my practice and engage new clients.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Commit. It really is true that once you decide in your soul to move forward, guides appear and doorways open in the most amazing ways.
  2. Strive and Surrender. I've learned that it's important always to be working to move things forward while also realizing that you are not truly in control. It is possible to work hard while cultivating a sense of detachment from outcomes.
  3. Be of service. The purpose of life is to use our gifts and talents to be of service to others. Whatever venture you pursue, let the goal of being of service serve as your north star.
