Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Linda Jordon, Founder of LRJ Coaching & Business Solutions LLC., located in Butner, NC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I work with business owners and professional leaders, helping them identify and close gaps in the workplace by setting goals and creating a strategy to increase productivity and growth in the workplace.

Tell us about yourself

I am a wife, mother, and breast cancer survivor. After being diagnosed with cancer, I decided to take early retirement from my 6 figure job and start my own consulting business. My motivation comes from my daughter. I want to leave a legacy for her, so that's what gets me up every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is helping others see their gifts and talents so that they can illuminate their potential and live their best life.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

It's challenging to step away or not be "in the business." As a business owner, you can't let the business run you. We all need to rely on others or systems to run the business while we, as the owner, manage the business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Treat your business like a business and not a hobby.
  2. Make sure that you have systems in place so that you can have an effective and efficient business.
  3. Always make sure that you pay yourself a salary.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

People need to understand that having a business isn't a get-rich-quick option. Being a business owner takes lots of hard work, dedication, and learning. You are the CEO, CFO, Manager, Secretary, and sometimes the maintenance worker. Yes, you can make good money as a business owner, but it takes time. You have to ask yourself, are you in it for the long haul?
