Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Gretchen Marsh, a Clinical Psychologist & Professional Speaker, based in Bloomfield, MI, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a clinical psychologist and professional mental health speaker. Schools, non-profits, and corporations hire me to give mental wellness presentations on various topics such as anxiety, depression, building cognitive flexibility, positive and effective communication, burnout, resilience, leadership skills, etc.
Tell us about yourself
I am a clinical psychologist with degrees from the University of Michigan and Wayne State University. I have a private practice and began speaking to schools about improving students' mental health. From that, corporations reached out, wanting various mental health speeches, and a new career was born.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Being googled by Google. Working for international corporations such as Lear Corporation and Alix Partners by bringing engaging mental wellness presentations to not only educate by smashing the mental health stigma. We need to treat mental health with the same priority as physical health. They are dependent on one another for overall health and well-being.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Juggling career, family, and raising three children. I want to do it all and have a great supportive team to help me achieve my goals.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Find a passion and start creating goals without regard to feasibility and finances. Find out what you want, and then find out how to get there. I never dreamed I'd be a professional speaker, but my goal is to help improve mental health across the world.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
People lack basic mental health knowledge and how to improve their mental health. I provide empirically validated solutions that will not only immediately improve your mental health but also prevent mental health problems in the future.
