Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Elizabeth Miller, Founder of Well Mind Body Integrative Psychotherapy & Wellness, located in Houston, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Well Mind Body is an Integrative Psychotherapy & Wellness practice in Houston, Texas. We provide an integrative, mind-body-spirit approach to mental health and wellness. We offer integrative psychotherapy, psychotherapy and wellness groups, clinical hypnosis, and wellness coaching. I created Well Mind Body after realizing the significant need for Integrative Psychotherapy and Wellness services.

After years of working in emergency psychiatric, addiction recovery, school settings, and private practice settings, I found that people were seeking a more integrative approach to mental health and mind-body healing. We know that the mind, body, and spirit are all interconnected, so why weren’t our mental health services incorporating an integrative approach? Well Mind Body exists to fill that need and provide Integrative Psychotherapy & Wellness services to people who are looking to find optimal health and wellness.

Tell us about yourself

I love what I do. I wake up every day and feel so grateful that I get to join my clients on a journey towards healing. As a child, I experienced many significant losses and traumas, which ultimately contributed to my developing many long-term chronic health conditions. My own journey of healing from loss, trauma, and chronic illness showed me that the mind, body, and spirit are all interconnected and that healing comes when we work with our whole being instead of thinking of each part as separate.

I have always been fascinated with how the mind, body, and spirit work together to heal. My own healing journey led me to become a psychotherapist and then motivated me to earn my Ph.D. in Mind-Body Medicine. Now I work with clients to help them cultivate their own healing.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I believe my biggest accomplishment is that I created a space for people to feel safe and healed. When I was so ill, I wished I had a place like Well Mind Body to assist in my own healing journey. I also feel very proud of the team of clinicians here at Well Mind Body. I feel honored that we get to be with our clients on their journey toward a better life each day

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I am a people person and love working with clients that part comes naturally to me. I find the more challenging part of running a business is the small daily tasks that keep an office and company running. I could work around the clock, and there would still be things that needed to get done. The behind-the-scenes of running a business, especially one that is client centered, takes a lot of time and effort.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Stay Focused. Identify your ultimate goals and values and take steps each day to help you reach your goal. This includes finding mentors, other professionals, and a community to support you as well as learning the ins and outs of how to run a business that is in alignment with your values. Sometimes this means saying yes and taking risks, and sometimes it means saying no to opportunities that may not align with your ultimate goal.
  2. Divide and Conquer. As a business owner, it is important to be able to understand what you are good at and what may be more difficult for you. I believe a key to success is to be able to identify your strengths, acknowledge your growth edges, and outsource what completely drains you.
  3. Stay Grounded. Know that there will be bumps along the way. Trust that the world needs what you have to offer and believe in your abilities to work through any challenges that may arise.
