Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Anthony Balduzzi, Founder of Fit Father Project and Fit Mother Project, located in Scottsdale, AZ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the founder and CEO of two companies, the Fit Father Project and the Fit Mother Project. My team and I help busy dads and moms over the age of 40 lose weight, build muscle, and get healthy for themselves and their families.

Tell us about yourself

My journey into health started at a young age — right after my father died from cancer. He was 42 years young when he passed. I was nine at the time. Watching my dad lose his health at such a young age taught me one of life's greatest lessons — namely, that health is the foundation of everything we love in life. Health is the foundation of our ability to raise our families, pursue our passions, connect with others, and enjoy our lives to the fullest. When we lose our health, we quickly lose all of that. After Dad died, I made two sacred promises. First, I promised to learn how to stay strong and healthy so that I could take care of my mom and little brother. Second, I promised that, in time, I'd help others do the same for themselves and their families.

Since making those promises, health has been the cornerstone focus of my life. I studied nutrition and exercise for countless hours — completing dual degrees in Nutrition & Neuroscience from an Ivy League university. I became a certified personal trainer and avid bodybuilder, competing in some of the world's most prestigious competitions. I eventually attended medical school to take my knowledge of health and wellness to the next level.

After my medical training, I founded the Fit Father Project and the Fit Mother Project websites in memory of my father to share everything I've learned about health & wellness with the specific goal of helping other busy moms and dads lose weight, build muscle, and finally get healthy for both themselves and their families.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is having over 50,000 people in over 100 countries join my Fit Father & Fit Mother Programs.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about being a business owner is that YOU must LEVEL UP personally as the business grows, scales, and expands. Each new level of business requires new personal skill sets, fresh perspectives, and an ever-increasing emphasis on leadership, team building, and systems & processes.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Tip #1: Pick a specific market that's underserved and build a SPECIFIC PRODUCT / SOLUTION for that market. Our market is health & fitness, which is notoriously competitive marketing with MANY established big money players. We were able to penetrate that market with a SPECIFIC message of health for the over 40 crowds paired with an amazing core offering (our Fit Father 30X and Fit Mother 30X Programs).

Tip #2: It's all about your CUSTOMER JOURNEY. Your marketing funnel, your product/service fulfillment funnel, is centered around the JOURNEY & OUTCOME you want your customer to achieve. The better you're able to understand where your customer is at, where they want to go, the pain points they have, and the tools + support they need to succeed... the more successful you will be.

Tip #3: Great products are built on consistent iterations. The best way to develop a GREAT product is to start with a GOOD product and, have as many people as possible use it & provide feedback that you can use to refine it. A GREAT product requires less marketing to produce sales because it creates repeatable results for clients. A GREAT product can keep you in business for many years.
