Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jennifer Day and Nadine Taylor, Owners of Dover Pilates, located in Dover, NH, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Dover Pilates is a boutique studio specializing in cross-training for your sport, passion, and life. We meet you where you're at and help you achieve your movement goals through the Pilates method.

Tell us about yourself

We partnered together to bring the full Pilates method to their local community, making the method that helped both of them accessible to others. Day in and day out, we are working tirelessly on growing the studio, creating more offers, and making Pilates even more accessible. Our motivation? The amazing DP clients, of course...we are so grateful for our clients!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The community that has grown within the studio. There is nothing that brings us more joy than seeing how what we love has connected others who wouldn't have had the opportunity to otherwise. We are so fortunate to have the ability to keep our classes small and really foster this growing community.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Time management! There is always so much to be done, but reigning ourselves to do the hard work is necessary.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Take the leap, make the jump, do the messy action, just do it.
  2. Hire a bookkeeper and accountant; it really is worth it.
  3. Get comfortable with hearing no, don't let one "no" stop you.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Partnerships are tricky, and most people will try and talk you out of doing one. If you are looking to partner, make sure you find the right person! We both shared the passion and had the drive... which makes partnering a no-brainer for us. If you don't want to do business solo, remember you don't have to.
