Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in coaching but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Doug Blecher, Founder of Autism Personal Coach, located in Cleveland, OH, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Autism Personal Coach and our mission are to provide autistic adults and teens with extraordinary support to live self-sufficient and purpose-driven lives through customized coaching and community events.

Tell us about yourself

I founded Autism Personal Coach almost ten years ago when I saw there was such a lack of support for autistic teens and adults. I'm motivated more than ever to continue to provide this customized support to one autistic person at a time so they can live the lives of their dreams.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'm really proud that we are here ten years later. We had to pivot from the majority of our coaching services being in person to zoom coaching. Not only surviving but thriving through the last couple of years to provide more autistic teens and adults in person or zoom coaching than ever before.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Knowing when to stay the course and when to pivot. It's a lonely road, so finding those select few that you trust to be a sounding board for you in helping you to make those crucial decisions about your business is critical.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Delegate. Make sure you provide measures of accountability when you do delegate tasks to others.
  2. Network. However, do it in a way that feels most comfortable to you. If networking in person is your thing, go for it. If you don't feel comfortable with that, connecting with others on social media can be just as powerful for your business.
  3. Faith. Believe in yourself and what your business provides even when things aren't going well because if you don't believe it, nobody else will.
