What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is a franchise independent insurance agency. My customers are consumers who are in need of personal and commercial lines products.
Tell us about yourself
I have been in the insurance industry for over 30 years. This is my first time operating my own agency. I have owned and operated a 501c3 non-profit organization for 13 years, and I am very involved within my community. The insurance agency gives me an opportunity to offer additional education and assistance for insurance needs. I am a Community Mental Health Worker, Peer Specialist, Substitute Teacher, Mentor with Junior Achievement, and Ph.D. Student, Early Literacy Interventionist, Ambassador for Pompano Beach, and Ordained Apostle over my non-profit, which serves youth and families.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is being able to work with young people giving them access to wisdom, life experience, and guidance to achieve goals and create their own legacies.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing right now is building the book of business from scratch. I am being patient as I want to build a platform for other young agents who would like to enter the industry effectively. I have gained some referrals by word of mouth and now working on partnerships with local realtors and mortgage brokers.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don't be afraid of your original vision.
- Be patient. Greatness takes time.
- Be consistent, have pure intentions, and be open to change.
