Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in educational service but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Katie Duffy Schumacher, Founder and President of Don’t Press Send Campaign, located in Rockville Centre, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is a multifaceted educational resource service for students, parents, and educators. We reach many through our public speaking events, monthly articles through the Medium outlet, social media, and my book.

Tell us about yourself

I began the Don’t Press Send Campaign program 10 years ago when I saw firsthand how social media was impacting today’s children in my own home and in my community. I am empowered to continue educating and informing parents and children to use kind and careful online communication as we together learn to find technologies place. I am motivated to create the positive reform needed to aid in any way I can.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as the founder of my program is self-publishing my first book and getting my first children's book ready to hit the shelves soon.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me, I am an educator and not a business person, so finding funding to expand my program to help more children is beyond difficult.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Care about what your business provides.
  2. You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start so you can be/do great.
  3. You are going to make a lot of mistakes and maybe even want to give up, but if you stop, you will never know what could have been and, in my case, who it could help.

Where can people find you and your business?
