Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health & wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Valeria Williamson, Owner of Do a Shot of Yoga, located in Chesapeake, VA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Do a Shot of Yoga Online Studio is for yoga practitioners who are ready to start personalizing their yoga practice both on and off the mat. Most people in the west come to yoga via the mat. That is, they attend a class at the gym or with a friend, and they get hooked because it feels amazing—which is totally valid, by the way. Studies show that there is a statistically significant drop in cortisol and other hormones related to stress and anxiety after just one yoga class.
Tell us about yourself
Yoga changed my life. It was the lynchpin that pulled everything together that I was trying to do to manage anxiety, feel balanced, and fully show up in the world. It is such a versatile practice that starts wherever the person begins and grows with them, changing along with them over time, and I want to share that with people, providing them with the tools and guidance they need to create a yoga practice that they love and that moves their world.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Creating a sustainable business that changes lives for the better, a business that allows me to provide for my family and to give back to the communities that have given so much to the rest of the world - there are too many to count.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Finding time for everything! There are so many courses I want to create, master classes I want to teach, retreats I want to run, and people I want to work with, but there are also 100 things I want to do with my kids and the rest of my family. It's a blessing to have so many incredible options in life, but it is sometimes difficult to serve every part of yourself and the people you love.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Just get started. Don't overthink. Don't stress over the details.
- You will constantly be changing things in your business, so nothing is set in stone.
- Choose what feels right and always keep moving forward.
