What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a filmmaker, content creator, and founder of DiscoverTheHorse, an educational equine adventure series that documents my journey to ride every horse breed. I collaborate with horse owners, equine businesses, breed registries, and other companies to show the world what our amazing horses do for us.
Tell us about yourself
Horses have always been my passion. No one else in my family was a horse person, but I was obsessed from a young age. I started a horse advertising business when I was 13 to help cover the cost of my horses and became a professional trainer before I could legally drive. To this day, I still prefer riding a horse over driving!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Leveraging persistence, continued education, and creative thinking to build an online community that is now over 100,000 followers across platforms. I get to do what I love, bring awareness to horse breeds and encourage others to follow their passions.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
You are responsible for everything when it comes to running a business. No specific profit is guaranteed, and the future of the business depends on the choices you make. The challenges, the time sacrifices, proper delegation, failures, successes - they are all on you.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don't wait until your idea is "perfect" to start.
- Be willing to think outside of the box; there are so many ways to find solutions to problems.
- Do the things that scare you. They are not always easy, but you will grow as a person and as a business owner.
