What's your business, and who are your customers?
DM20 is a marketing automation platform that lifts the results of direct mail by 50% on average through the use of digital marketing efforts.
Tell us about yourself
After spending almost 25 years in the wholesale distribution of packaged entertainment (CDs, DVD) and being completely disrupted by technology, I knew I had to get into something that would never be disrupted. This brought me to digital marketing technology, which is always changing. All you have to do is stay ahead of that curve. I love technology and love building things that help improve people's businesses. This was a perfect fit that came along at the right time.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Taking a money-losing start-up and turning it into a cash-generated, award-winning, and well-respected business within our industry in just a couple of years. This was without any outside investment, too.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Being able to change on a dime yet be methodical in your process. Being patient yet with a sense of urgency. Motivating people and building teams when the chips are down and the coffers empty. Promising the world and then having to figure out how to actually deliver it and doing it! Turning nothing into something.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Plan on it!
- Taking longer than you think.
- Costing more than you think.
- Not achieving all that you have planned, and you should end up happy for the most part if you keep grinding away.
