Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and nutrition but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dina Garcia, Owner of Vida Nutrition and Conscious Living, located in Miami, FL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I own Vida Nutrition and Conscious Living. I help individuals who are struggling with binge/emotional eating to be able to eat without guilt or fear so they can reclaim the brain space they are devoting to thinking about food & use it for what matters most to them in life.
Tell us about yourself
I started down my path of being an anti-diet Dietitian because of my own past struggles with binge eating & negative body image. I grew up in an environment where dieting & body dissatisfaction were the norm. This leads me towards a negative relationship with food. Ditching diets was the best thing I ever did. Helping people have a healthy relationship with food keeps me motivated to show up every day in my business.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is sticking to my convictions & not pedaling diet BS, even though it's easier to sell.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
I think one of the hardest parts about being a business owner is not having a handbook. Every business is different & so there is a lot of trial & error involved in figuring out what is going to work for you and your business.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Believe in yourself. There will be setbacks, but you have to learn from them & not let them drag you down.
- Find a way to get organized & prioritize. If you lack structure, you'll likely feel like your wheels are spinning & you're getting nowhere.
- Take care of yourself. You are the MVP of your business. If your physical and emotional needs aren't being met, you won't be able to show up as your best self for your business. It's easy to constantly put business over yourself, but you still have to pause & take care of yourself.
