Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Burak Torun, project manager at Digital Pine, located in Rickmansworth, England, UK.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Digital Pine is a digital agency specialising in website development, search engine optimisation, branding for start-ups, mobile app development, and PPC Ads management services. Our clients include start-ups and businesses of all sizes, as well as established UK and international brands.

Tell us about yourself

I have always had an interest in digital technology and started developing websites at an early age. I then went on to study computer science at Brunel University in London. During my studies, I took on a part-time role working on a Google search engine algorithm improvement project. The combination of my passion for web development and the experience I gained from my role at Google fueled my entrepreneurial interests and gave me the confidence to launch my own business. My passion for digital technology and the wonderful feedback we receive from our clients keep me motivated every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Winning best website design awards and successfully completing a government tender for our local council.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Being a business owner can be challenging, especially during the start-up phase of the business. During this time, there were a lot of unknowns, and it was difficult to know what steps to take to get my business off the ground. Another challenging aspect I experienced was managing work and home time correctly. The line between work and personal life can become blurred, and it can be difficult to find a balance between the two. This can lead to burnout and negatively impact your business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be flexible - Be open to change and adapt to the market as necessary. Be prepared to pivot your business strategy if needed.
  2. Keep your customers in mind - Provide excellent customer service and strive to meet their needs. This will help you build a loyal customer base and get your business off the ground.
  3. Continuously learn and improve - Seek out opportunities to learn and grow as a business owner. Attend industry events, read relevant books, and seek out mentorship opportunities.
