What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own a candle business. My business appeals to everyone. My customer base is very versatile as we try to cater to everyone's needs.

Tell us about yourself

My name is Diamond Riddick. Owner of Jays Luxury Candles. I have a one-year-old son who is my everything named Jayden. I started this business for my son. When he was around 4-5 months, he got a cold. Causing him to have issues breathing while trying to sleep. So I started mixing peppermint and eucalyptus in the diffuser. From that day on, I kept doing it and began figuring out that mixing different scents can create some beautiful smells. Not only was I able to make beautiful scents, but I was also able to create scents that can also help people. What motivates me every day is my son, helping people, and just knowing that I am walking in my purpose.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment for me so far is just being able to be creative and patient with myself. Running a business takes patience, and I mean lots of it. A lot of the first trials you do fail, so you have to be patient with yourself until you find the right formula for your business that works for you and your business.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a business owner is that I am still early in the entrepreneurship world there are many things I haven't seen yet, the good, the bad, and the ugly. But, for where I am, the hardest thing has been trying to maintain balance. Balance as far as still maintaining work and school.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be patient with yourself.
  2. Create a vision board so you can know your goals.
  3. Always know your why and don't forget it because when you lose motivation, just remember the reason you do this.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I like to remember these important slogans every day.

  1. It takes money to make money.
  2. there's no such thing as a bad day. A bad moment yes, but a bad day no such thing.
  3. Always remember to make it a great day or not; the choice is yours, and the choice is mine.
