Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dennis Buttimer, Co-Founder of Atlanta Center for Mindfulness & Well-Being, located in Brookhaven, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a professional speaker, executive coach, stress and mindfulness expert, TEDx speaker, corporate trainer, and author of two Mindfulness books.

Tell us about yourself

I have always been a helper. I've worked in many capacities over many years, all of which had the primary element of helping others. I still work with cancer patients, have a private practice (along with my wife Angela), and keynote speak to organizations and associations.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Surviving and then thriving! As an entrepreneur, even with a good business plan, there are still so many unforeseen things and details that you have to navigate. I feel delighted that we have been in business for 20 years now and, in many ways getting stronger!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The details! Taxes, supplies, and paying your own healthcare have been dependent primarily responsible for the flow of business. So you have to constantly be doing your best to "fill up the pipeline."

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Follow your passion, not what others think you should do. Give yourself permission to listen to your own heart!
  2. Make a solid business plan but launch when you're at 80%. It can't be perfect before you go live. It's never perfect anyway, so go for it!
  3. Keep tweaking, get ongoing support, and ask for feedback from people you trust! Utilize regular quality assurance and control.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Yes. Above all, be kind and compassionate to yourself. Invest in your own self-care and give yourself positive messages. Remember: you are the commodity! :)
