Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in finance education but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Matthew Moffett, CEO of DeFi Freedom University, located in Davie, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

DeFi Freedom University is an online learning platform designed to teach the fundamentals of bitcoin, cryptocurrency, and Decentralized Finance. Learn to safely store and manage your digital assets without using intermediaries like banks. My platform was created to serve anyone with a high school diploma or equivalent who is interested in learning about bitcoin, crypto, or passive income.

Tell us about yourself

After earning my MBA at Liberty University and reading "Rich Dad Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki, I started earning passive income with crypto by mining Ethereum out of my bedroom. I eventually expanded and started my own side business. Starting with crypto mining helped me learn about blockchain security, smart contracts, tokenomics, and much more. I've condensed the core principles of what I've learned into DeFi Freedom University, so I can teach my family and friends. My ultimate goal is to serve others by sharing this powerful knowledge that helped me achieve financial freedom.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment has been being able to retire early from law enforcement and own 100% of my time. Now, I'm free to be a more dedicated husband and father and pursue other entrepreneurial endeavors like real estate investing. Additionally, I was able to start a family business, Campus Shield, with my father, that is focused on keeping school campuses safe by using the highest security standards.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is the massive discomfort. There's comfort in working for a big business, corporation, or government. That comfort is related to the safety of a timely paycheck and someone else making the big decisions. The tradeoff is your growth is very limited. Conversely, being a business owner means your success is linked to your hard work and your decisions. The ships sink or sail because of you. That pressure is enormous. The tradeoff is your growth potential is much larger. By choosing to embrace discomfort and believe in yourself, you allow the possibility of greater success and growth. But the righteous path is definitely straight and narrow!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

It starts with belief and faith in yourself and what you are capable of. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Fear of failure holds you back from trying.

So, Step 1: believe. Step 2: act on your belief. Step 3: mentally commit to working hard and making incremental progress for at least 1-3 years. In other words, work hard for a long time while measuring your progress. And never stop believing. Faith is always the starting point.
