Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in coaching but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Deborah Colleen Rose, a Life and Spiritual Coach, based in Garland, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is helping people help themselves as easy and free of pain as possible. I have a clientele as young as 6 and as old as 79. The main modalities I offer are life, spiritual coaching (not the same thing), and handwriting therapy labeled Harmonious Handwriting.

Tell us about yourself

Everything I do or have done has been because I saw a hurt or a need and did not see a ready solution. As a private investigator, a coach, an advocate, a teacher, and a speaker, I provide people with the information they need to make better decisions by giving them information and details they need for more options. The more options a person has, the better they are at finding their own solutions.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I have been in business myself since I was 21 years old. While there have been successes and less than successes, I have always been able to take care of my family, have a good, high quality of life, and feel like I am helping others while taking care of me and myself. I know for a fact there are happier people, more content marriages, and even people still alive today that had decided not to be alive previously because I was able to stand for them and with them and help them find the ability to adjust their lives.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me, it has been finding the right client that suits them and I suit them. I have found that for the past 15 years, my best clients are clients that are referred to me.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have enough money to pay your home rent or mortgage three months in advance and pay it. That way, you don't have to think about it.
  2. Tell everyone what you are doing and why you are doing it.
  3. Hire people to do the things you won't do or can't do - such as accounting or website building.
