What's your business, and who are your customers?
Hair & Scalp Meds is a nutrient-rich hair and scalp care brand that focuses on providing high-quality hair and scalp products that are rich in nutrients and free from harmful chemicals. My customers are those who prioritize natural and healthy hair care and are looking for products that promote hair growth, improve scalp health, and nourish their hair.
Tell us about yourself
Over 25 years ago, I started my career as a hairstylist specializing in healthy hair and scalp care. During these years, I noticed that many of my new clients were experiencing unexplained hair loss at a rapid rate. I urged them to speak with their doctor or dermatologist to determine the root cause of their hair loss. Unfortunately, their doctors could never find anything wrong. I knew I had to dig deeper and find the root cause myself, which led me to become a trichologist to learn more about hair and scalp disorders to help my clients restore their hair from the inside out.
Once my clients' hair was restored, they began sharing my hair tips and remedies with their family and friends, and soon Ask Debbie About Hair was born. I then created my YouTube channel under the same name sharing DIY hair recipes and tips to help others worldwide with their hair issues. Many of my "fans" would ask for hair product recommendations. However, when I looked at the ingredients of most products on the market, they all contained harsh chemicals that could cause health and hair issues. These products were also more for styling and did not nourish the hair or scalp. Hair follicles need nutrients to grow healthy and strong. Otherwise, hair problems will arise.
With the knowledge that I obtained from cosmetology, trichology, and hours of research. I took matters into my own hands again. This time, I created my first haircare product, Pure 7 Hair Repairing Oil. I began to use it with my clients and shared their results on my YouTube channel. The results were astounding, and it is still my best-selling oil today! I now have over eight hair care products I developed and formulated myself, which I sell on my website, www.hairandscalpmeds.com.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I'm so proud of how my hair and scalp care business has grown over the past few years. We've developed a loyal customer base and a great reputation for providing top-notch plant-based products and services.
My biggest accomplishment to date has been scaling my business to reach six figures without any paid advertising, which has allowed me to hire an email marketing team, collaborate with a holistic manufacturer to mass produce most of my hair products, and partner with a 3PL fulfillment center to ship my products to consumers. Previously, my assistant and I did everything! I'm proud that my hair and scalp care products are loved worldwide and have helped millions of people recover from their hair and scalp issues naturally. It has been an incredible journey, and I am proud that many people trust me and support my products and services.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is the responsibility of making important decisions that can greatly impact the success or failure of the business and maintaining and growing my brand's reputation in a highly competitive market.
