Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Debbie Reynolds, Founder and CEO of Debbie Reynolds Consulting LLC., located in Chicago, IL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

At Debbie Reynolds Consulting LLC, we demystify Data Privacy for companies to make it a business advantage. Most companies face data challenges around balancing data privacy obligations while doing business. We help companies bridge the data privacy gap between the legal, compliance, development, and technology functions while breaking barriers to product or service adoption. From start-up companies looking for new customers to mature companies that must pivot their Data Privacy focus, Debbie Reynolds Consulting can take companies as far as they would like to go, as fast as they would like to get there.

Tell us about yourself

I have worked in data-centric technology fields for over 20 years but started in 2014 to move into Data Privacy and Technology due to being contacted by Fortune 500 companies for advice and training about Data Privacy, global regulations, and how it impacts the development and implementation of technologies. Every day, I am motivated by the emerging technologies and ever-changing regulatory landscape. This is a thrilling time to be in the Data Privacy and Technology fields.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been to not only advise companies on the implementation of technologies but also advise organizations at the development stage with things like privacy by design. It is a thrill to have products come to life knowing that you were involved at inception and implementation.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things in being a business owner is finding the best ways to get your message across and be heard, especially by large organizations and industries with data challenges. My thought leadership and speaking have helped me greatly in this regard.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find a good mentor who has achieved what you want to accomplish in your business.
  2. Try to fund your venture yourself to start, which gives you more freedom to find out what works best before you start to seek outside funding.
  3. Be open to changing your preconceived notions. Smart business people know how to pivot when needed, so do not be afraid to change.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

It is always a pleasure to connect with new audiences, so I am honored to be featured.
