Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with David Beeson, CEO of DB Wholesale CBD Industries, Inc., located in Temple, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a manufacturer of CBD and Delta 8 products. We also distribute these products to both wholesale customers and retail customers.

Tell us about yourself

I am a retired, disabled veteran and have been in the CBD industry for over 8 years. The reason I started my business was my wife fell at work, and the resulted injury required surgery. She has had 46 surgeries, and eventually, they had to remove her leg above the knee because of MRSA.

But during these surgeries, they got her hooked on opioids, and I had to get her off of them. A friend recommended CBD, which I did not know what it was. I verified it might help, so I started her on a large dosage of CBD and cut back on the opioids, and then slowly reduced both until I cut the opioids to zero. She is now opioid-free and uses CBD or Delta 8 for the pain.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Working with a chemist, we created a CBD and Delta 8 tincture that tasted good. We know that when you use a tincture, you must leave it in your mouth for about 1 minute and then swallow the remaining. There are many flavored tinctures on the market, but most after you swallow, there is an awful medicine taste left in your mouth. We both love candy, so we used two candy companies as our baseline for flavor and sweetness. After many unsuccessful attempts, we finally found the perfect flavor and sweetness that, when swallowed, leaves you with a very sweet and flavorful aftertaste. We named them Juicy Drops.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing for me to do is to delegate to other employees projects I know they can do for me or even sometimes better than me. I have always been a hands-on person, and it is hard to just let go.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The first thing is to have financial backing available. It does not matter if you have the best new gadget available. If you do not have a funding source available, getting your business off the ground becomes very difficult.

Second, do a lot of research on your potential business. Is something already being used so close to what you have that would cause a conflict? Has someone tried this before and failed?

Third, surround yourself with talented people that sometimes know more than you about a portion of the business and use their strengths to strengthen the entire company.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

One of the biggest things I would recommend is to never give up. We tried many formulas before finally discovering what satisfied us with a flavor and sweetness that pleased our customers. What would have happened if we had given up just before trying that last formula? There would have never been a Juicy Drop product.
