Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Emily Getz, Founder of Day 1 Fertility, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Day 1 Fertility is a first-of-its-kind support network that is geared to those who are trying to conceive, offering a new way to navigate your infertility. We offer two principal support programs - 1:1 mindset coaching with me and our highly unique membership program, which includes group coaching, a supportive community, and access to experts.

Tell us about yourself

In 2019, at six months pregnant, I unexpectedly lost our baby girl, and since then have been on our journey to build our family. I felt there was a gap in relatable content and education around infertility. I started the Day 1 Podcast off the side of my desk in May 2021. Since then, Day 1 has grown into a multi-tiered business offering many different ways to get support. Day 1 was the baby that was born out of my pain. Because of my three years personal journey, I have learned that you can have both - live your life and go through infertility - and I want to teach anyone and everyone how to do that.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishments are the messages I receive daily from women sharing how they are getting back to themselves and learning to live again because of Day 1. Launching my coaching program the membership was very exciting, but ultimately the decision to leave my corporate job and commit to growing Day 1 has been a milestone in my life.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

There are many challenges, and I am still new to being a business owner, so I know there are more to come, but for me, it is the constant belief in myself and what I am growing and understanding that where Day 1 is currently is just the beginning and never doubting my growth and business decisions.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Follow your intuition.
  2. Admit when you don't know how to do something and get help.
  3. Don't be afraid to try new things.
