Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dawn Marie Morris, Chief Training Officer of The World Class Training Institute, Inc., located in Nashville, TN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I was looking on IG and saw a lady bashing a restaurant. She said, "Don't go to (the restaurant). They treated me horribly. They did not greet me...etc." Her determination of their value was not related to the building or the food. It was the people. We help businesses with their greatest asset, people. Through leadership and professional development training, we help organizations to deliver team members who are efficient, productive, and courteous to their customers and constituents.

Tell us about yourself

I have worked in the corporate leadership training for several years, directing and facilitating. One day God, through a series of events, told me to "graduate" from Corporate America and start The World Class Training Institute. I obeyed the "directive" and started the business in November 2019.

My motivation is threefold. First, I am committing to honoring the call to this work. Second, I love what I do and how I can impact people broadly. Third, I get to inspire my son to be the best that he can be. He watches me grow this business and knows that he can grow his business and make it become whatever he desires and works hard to make it.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is hard to say. The most unexpected blessing has been the success of my book, WWBD-What Would Barack Do? Inspiring Presidential Tools for the Leader in You. I had no expectation of training students when I wrote it, but we do. It has been amazing!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the disciplines I have had to develop as a business owner is resisting the urge to worry about tomorrow. I have to remind myself from time to time not to worry about tomorrow or the next day. Stay focused on what is in front of me and maximize the moment. The rest will take care of itself.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. "Trust in the Lord with All Your Heart.
  2. Lean Not on Your Own Understanding.
  3. In All Your Ways Acknowledge Him, and He Will Direct Your Path."- Pro. 3:5-6

Is there anything else you'd like to share?
