Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dawn Cooper, Founder of Design the Future You, located in Mooresville, IN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Design the Future You is a business that marries Personal Development and Life Coaching for the Sales Professional. My core offering is the Design the Future You Academy which is a year-long Personal Development program that includes weekly Video Modules and Worksheets, weekly Group Coaching, and a private Facebook Community. I also offer private one-on-one Life Coaching.

Tell us about yourself

I've been a Sales Professional for over 20 years and have used Personal Development to grow both personally and professionally during that time. I was first introduced to Life Coaching in 2020 in my journey to lose weight and improve my overall health. Working with a Life Coach was life-changing. Over the course of a one-year period, I lost over 75 lbs and have kept it off. The experience had such a powerful impact on me that I decided to become a Life Coach too. I began the Certification process, and Design the Future You was born!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Seeing my clients change their lives. To help them see what's possible and to support them as they go for it. What a privilege that is!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

There are inevitable setbacks and discouragements that come along the way anytime you endeavor to begin something new, and that includes starting a new business. It's important to keep in mind that these things are normal and can be overcome. A lot of times, it's a matter of trying a new approach, evaluating your progress and continuing the process until you find what works.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be patient- it's not going to happen overnight.
  2. Remember that failure and setbacks are part of the process and necessary for success. Learn from what's not working so that you can figure out what will.
  3. Celebrate the wins. See how far you've come, and keep going!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

The photo that I shared shows the change that one year made in my life. Through the help of a Life Coach, plus eating well and exercising, I lost 75 lbs.
