Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with David Pedersen, co-owner of Soups I Did It Again, LLC, located in Spring Green, WI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a regional food producer. We source locally and manufacture soups (frozen) and fresh bakery for delivery and local retailers. Our customers are folks who are looking for creative, flavorful, and nutritious meals (vegan and vegetarian) that are added sugar and preservative-free.

Tell us about yourself

The business began when I was out of work as a professional chef due to the pandemic. My wife is a social worker and aspiring baker. We joined efforts to create a product we could get to our community, contactless, and keep involved in our regional going's-on.

We are both motivated by wellness and service. We recently studied and became EMTs for our local volunteer service. Our community not only inspires us but also cheers us on as we grow.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Finally, crafting and opening a business after several decades of helping others open theirs. Finding a like-minded and creative chef in my partner certainly adds to the wonder as we go forward.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Asking for help. Maybe that's an old hang-up. Details. Consistency. Safety. The stress of not knowing if the income stream is going to be there.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Ask around. Develop your idea and share it with the community market that you want to create.
  2. Lift up your people. Bring in friends who share your intrinsic value in the goods or services you want to provide and be generous with them with regard to their time and talent.
  3. Take yourself seriously. Take ownership of what you create, and look forward to growing and maturing with it. Always keep an eye out for fresh ideas then it becomes fun!
