Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with David Alison, Founder of David Alison Coaching Ltd., located in Abington, Biggar, UK.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Coach, Guide, and Thinking Partner to Business Owners & Leaders. My typical clients are "successful" according to society's norms. In addition, they want more from life, whether that's in business, their corporate career, or their personal life. They are looking for "the edge" to get to the next levels in life & business and to eradicate the mental barriers that hold them back from creating and achieving the legacy they desire. In finding their bigger purpose, they want to make a difference in the causes they are passionate about.

It is my role to guide and support them as they transform their mindset, beliefs, and personal psychology. I help to open their minds and hearts to what's possible and to achieve the legacy and greatness they strive for, whatever that may be, examples of which could be creating a mindset and identity to deliver success in the boardroom or their expansion as an entrepreneur.

Tell us about yourself

I am 61 years old, a Dad and Grandad, and have been a full-time coach for 5.5 years. This was a 180-degree shift from what I did before, working my way up the corporate ladder to board level for around 38 years. I love the work I do; there is so much fulfillment in watching others open up to their potential and achieve greatness in their lives. It is a blessing.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The biggest accomplishment has been to witness some incredible transformations in my clients, examples being from overcoming a long-standing 20-year mental illness to becoming a therapist, other clients 5x their business and personal net worth. I feel called to do this work, and I have recently launched another company with a fellow coach here in Scotland to support men worldwide with their emotional and mental health https://www.claymoretribe.com. I am sure it will become the biggest accomplishment in my business career in the next few years.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

It can be a lonely path; I work from home. It takes resilience and a certain amount of courage.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do something you really love doing, and find your passion and purpose.
  2. Surround yourself with good people, and choose your team with balance.
  3. Have a strong support network, get a coach or mentor, and be active in communities of like-minded people.
