What's your business, and who are your customers?
Datefit is a fitness-inspired dating & friends app. Our platform connects fitness lovers of any level for friendship or dating. The Datefit community has over 500,000 goal-oriented, health-minded singles looking to connect with other like-minded go-getters.
Tell us about yourself
I've been involved in online dating since 2007. After having two exits from companies I founded, my goal was to find something that I'm super passionate about, which happens to be fitness and connecting people. It made total sense to start Datefit, there was no other social platform like it, and we've paved the way for other similar concepts in the dating space.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Starting a company and immediately stepping into an arena competing with multi-billion dollar companies like Match Group and Spark Networks is extremely difficult. We've been thriving for over 3 years and have seen dozens of competing concepts come and go. Being able to "stay in the game" and compete in the dating space has been a huge accomplishment in itself.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing for me is trying to shut down. There is no time clock; it's a 24/7 grind from the moment your eyes open until you go to bed. It's very difficult to take my mind off of growth and take the time to relax and recharge. I'm getting better at it, but I likely won't rest until we reach our goals.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Research and have a solid plan.
- Find a trusted mentor or advisor who has real experience.
- Tough up your skin; it will be way harder than you think. Don't be discouraged, and stay focused.
