Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in beauty and cosmetics but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Danielle Johnson, Founder of Posh And Pretty Brow Bar, located in Houston, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Posh and Pretty Brow Bar®, THE premier brow studio in Southeast Houston, TX. We offer various eyebrow services, including semi-permanent ombre and combination brows, henna brows, brow lamination, and brow shaping and grooming. We also offer training for semi-permanent and henna brows, as well as shadowing days for other brow artists.

Our customers, who we affectionately call the Pretty Committee®, are busy professional women that want to look their best with minimal effort. That's where we step in!

Tell us about yourself

I first started doing brows when I was in 9th grade, with my first client being MYSELF. I didn't have the money to get my brows professionally shaped, so I taught myself how to do them. I became a professional brow artist in 2018, which is when I took my first microblading training, and the rest is history.

What motivates me every day is my daughter. Being a positive role model and having a flexible schedule to be present for her drives me every single day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment (thus far) as a business owner is quitting my 9-5 and working for myself full-time.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Burnout! Especially when you're a solopreneur. You have to wear all the hats in your business, which can easily cause you to overwork.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Plan for the unexpected because it WILL happen. Have a well-founded emergency fund for your business and personal expenses.
  2. Have a solid support system that includes at least one other business owner. Having your tribe to cry, celebrate, or navigate the ups and downs of business with is a gift that money cannot buy.
  3. Take care of your mental health. Being an entrepreneur is the most emotionally stressful thing I've ever done in my life. I suggest having a mental health professional in your arsenal for those times when your mental health may take a dip.
