Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Daniel Sullivan, a science fiction author and an avid motorcyclist based in Frederick, MD, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a science fiction author, and my customers are anyone who enjoys reading a science fiction yarn.

Tell us about yourself

I had stories to tell, and as I shared my ideas with others, I found they wanted to hear them. Every time I sit down to write, I never know quite what the end result will be. I love the journey, and I love to see where my stories end up going.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Seeing my work in print, particularly my latest two novels, "Better the Millstone" and "The Lengths to Which We Go," has been a dream come true.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

As an indie author, I find the most difficult thing is the need for constant self-promotion. It's something that I enjoy, but it is time-consuming. Keeping up with social media, in particular, is a challenge for me.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

First, if you have a dream, follow it, relish it, and revel in it. If you make it big and find success, so much the better!

Second, when things get tough (and they will get tough), remember why you started your business in the first place.

Finally, have fun!
