Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Patricia Rieger, owner of Cypress Table, located in Rockledge, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Cypress Table, Florida Craft Street Food with a side of Donuts! After opening as a boutique catering company in November of 2019, it wasn't long before things had to um, evolve? So we build a small (very small lol) food trailer out of an old NASA guard shack and have been pushing the limits of craft street food and donuts ever since! I'd say our client base are folks who appreciate a little something off the beaten path. They enjoy our Pop Up Location and have a blast dining alfresco on our artisan baked goods and craft street brunch on the weekends!

Tell us about yourself

I'm most motivated by my desire to produce a unique culinary experience for people, to be a part of a movement that hopes to change our antiquated kitchen culture and gives back to organizations that need support. I want to be different in every way. In taste, in experience, in the way we see food concepts, and most of all, I want people to taste how much I truly love my craft!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I honestly think just getting through the last two years has been an amazing accomplishment- necessity is the mother of invention. If I've learned nothing else, it's that I have to be willing to evolve and roll with the punches!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I think in my industry it's that I want to do so much more for my company. I want to offer paid time off to give people the chance to grow, and that's hard being such a small business. The restrictions that come with being so so small, but I believe I'll get there!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your research! Make sure there is a market for what you want to do!
  2. Make sure your vision is clear and unwavering!
  3. Never give yourself a plan B. There is no plan b! Only plan A success!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Just that it's a difficult time for most small businesses this year and will continue to be difficult for some time. My hope is that people will support them as we are not through this yet-buy from the local florist, go to the local coffee shop, eat at the weird little mom and pop. It means the world.
