What's your business, and who are your customers?
Founded in 2017 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Cutbow Coffee Roastology is a no-wave artisanal coffee roastery, tasting room, and coffee bar. We procure the finest specialty-grade Arabica coffees from around the globe. We roast and blend utilizing our "signature less style," respecting the time-honored art of coffee roasting. We cater to a wide range of coffee (and tea) lovers, from those with the most discerning and developed palates to coffee ingénues looking to explore the vast and varied flavor horizons found in the world of coffee.
Tell us about yourself
My coffee roasting journey began in 1989. I gained valuable experience mentoring with industry luminaries such as Alfred Peet, widely considered the Grandfather of Specialty Coffee. Cutbow Coffee was established in 2017 as a tribute to my late father, an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing in the rivers and lakes of New Mexico. The name Cutbow refers to a hybrid trout found in these waters. I remain motivated by my Dad's influence on my daily life and the love he shared with his family.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Providing an inclusive, safe, and welcoming environment for customers and employees alike. Bringing an elevated customer experience enhanced by cultural significance through the simple pleasure found in a cup of coffee.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Achieving and maintaining harmony in the workplace.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Remember how it felt to be an employee.
- Keep quality a priority, and never take shortcuts.
- Learn to say "no."
