Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Michael Yinger, Founder of Customer Solutions, Inc., located in Charlotte, NC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We help companies find and retain the best talent. Our customers are growing businesses in the small to mid-size range who are looking to enhance or even set up their talent acquisition infrastructure.

Tell us about yourself

I started the company 20 years ago. I was looking for a new challenge and not finding anything interesting, so I took stock of my skills and decided I could really make some difference by using those skills, creating and running my own company. My daily motivation is to support my family while growing the business and enhancing the possibilities for my clients.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I think keeping a company going for 20 years is pretty good. Beyond that, setting up and publishing a podcast to share what I've learned is something I'm very proud of.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Balancing the different facets of the business. How much time to spend on business development vs. working with clients vs. administrative activities vs. family commitments.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Understand your value proposition (what you would be offering to the market). Know your ideal customer persona. Be realistic about the effort you will have to put into marketing your goods/services.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Have a network before you get started—people who can provide references, advice, or just a sympathetic ear.
