Tell us about yourself
At the age of 5, I remember having a dream where I was flying and had my hands outstretched. As I flew, everyone I flew over was being healed by my hands. Little did I know how impactful that dream would be in the present day. As an innate empath, I led a life of compassion and love for others, which did not always feel like the right countenance as a young black boy in Mississippi.
After attending the University of Mississippi, psychology was my chosen weapon to heal the world. I spent 8 years working in public and private-sector mental health facilities. As a young man still searching for myself, I found that a career in psychology yielded an expensive education with outrageous student loan debt but a minimal salary. I changed my career plans and spent the next decade working in hospitality management. Even though I accomplished great things, positively affected many lives, and lived the "American Dream," my divine purpose was calling, and in 2020, I finally answered the call.
I started Ezell's Metaphysical Healing Services, LLC as a culmination of a life filled with extreme highs and lows, rooted in love expressed by a loving family and innate empathy, and structured by over 22 years of corporate business experience.
"To heal the world, one soul at a time" is the business motto and slogan. I am motivated to keep striving for excellence because I'm not doing it for myself only. I feel that I have a purpose that supersedes my need for a successful career or any other egotistical attitude toward life. I choose to be the change that I want to see in the world, and my business, Ezell's Metaphysical Healing Services, LLC, is one way change can be affected on this planet and others.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is continuing to watch my business evolve. I thought with my business plan and forecast, I would be ready for what the future holds. I was greatly mistaken. As I continued to learn and expand my esoteric knowledge, my business evolved, adding some things and subtracting others. I've learned that my business is a living, growing entity that will continue to change and evolve as it lives out its purpose.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Being a business owner, I believe, is a lot like being a parent. You create something and believe in knowing what's best for it to thrive. You do this based on your own knowledge, what you've seen others do, and the inclinations expressed by the thing you've created. Even though I'm not a parent of a human child, I'm aware of just how hard it is to know that this is NEVER how the plan works out. We don't know which decisions are best for our children because they have an individualized, personal purpose for their lives, and even though a business is not a living, breathing person, it too has a purpose that the owner/creator may not fully understand. So, just as a parent, one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner is allowing your business to go through ups and downs, good times and bad times, to remain committed to it and love it, despite your preconceived notions and expectations.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Do your research and become an expert in your field.
- Have a business plan and general idea of your business' purpose, but allow your business (and customers) to evolve and change.
- Continuously check your intentions. If your intentions are not aligned with the greater good of yourself and others but have some malice, ill intent, or evil intended for others, be aware that what you put out in this world will come back to you (in this lifetime or the next).
