Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in skincare but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kerianne Hamelin, Co-Founder of Cure Soaps Inc., located in Nanaimo, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Cure Soaps is an all-natural soap and skincare company here on Vancouver Island. We create clean and thoughtful products for those who are looking for high-quality ingredients without nasty chemicals, preservatives, and fillers.

Tell us about yourself

As active yoga instructors, it was extremely important for us to find both a natural and gentle way to cleanse as well as hydrate our skin. However, with that being said, it was just as important to create products that are environmentally thoughtful. We are always mindful of the environmental footprint we leave.

We are passionate about the all-natural products we create, and we make them using simple and REAL ingredients.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Thinking back over the last seven years, we have had many wins but also many failures. I would have to say one of our biggest accomplishments is that we are still here, riding the waves of owning a small community-based company. Without our community support, I am not sure we would be where we are today!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

There are a lot of hard things, lol. There are so many bits and pieces that go into running a small business; who knew! Our world is forever moving and changing, and being able to keep up with it all can be a challenge. Our niche market is very over-saturated, so staying at the forefront of it all can often feel daunting.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Believe in yourself and what you are creating. If you don't, who will??
  2. Keep learning. Take courses in your area, read, research, and learn from those that have come before you.
  3. Keep going. There will be days you are just not sure, but keep going!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Connect with your community. Community support is more important for both you and your community than you could imagine.
