Tell us about yourself

Watching my mother and sister cook made me love cooking, but I’d say my interest piqued or may be tilted towards the oven and baking cakes when I watched Cake Boss and MasterChef. My passion grew from cooking to baking art. That’s how Cupcake Queen was born. Through the baking journey, I learned too many people take life too seriously, so I spiced it up with a witty and fun apparel line - that’s how CQsWorld came to life.

The smile on people’s faces keeps me going. The smile that reaches the heart. When someone sees their order, tastes a cupcake, or reads one of my quotes. That drives me.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I live in Wuhan City (China) and the new norm of the world. With the pandemic and all, I’d say my biggest accomplishment was actually launching CQsWorld in these times and actually learning and growing through it.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I think that will have to be starting out, starting out broke, the risks, keeping the faith, putting in the work while knowing you’ll still be broke for a while. Keeping one’s head up high while creating this and trusting the process can be hard.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. I’d say get a job, get you a stable source of income. Build your passion from the time you have on the side. Grow the passion. Understand the passion. With these tools, when you’re ready to go in full time, you’ll better understand what you are doing and what you want to achieve. This journey can take a toll on so many areas of your life. Not being able to afford life shouldn’t be on the list if it can be avoided.
  2. You may be a one-man’s army, but if you can get the right people in your corner to believe and take the journey with you, you would notice the journey might be a bumpy ride but filled with love.
  3. Get out of your familiar territory put your heart and soul into it. So that those who show up for your business can feel your meraki.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Remember to Always Smile. Life is not that serious. Take it one day at a time, one foot in front of the other, and make the most of all the cards you’ve been dealt with.
