What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a professional coach and consultant. I work with individuals looking to transition, whether to a new leadership position or toward retirement. I facilitate teams and groups supporting them in working together, bringing them together as a team, and achieving their goal. It's all about being the best you can be at various stages of life!

Tell us about yourself

I had experienced coaching when I was the CEO of a Hospital Foundation and was so excited by the experience that I had to go and become a Coach. I love working with people, and I am able to travel vicariously (a bonus) with clients from all over the world. There's no feeling better than being thanked by an individual after a coaching contract - how they feel, what is different for them.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I've made a successful transition, and I work on my own terms. The freedom of running my own business.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Recognizing the difference between working in the business and working on the business. You are responsible for everything, from publicity to finance.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Figure out how much time you want to spend on the business as well as how much time you want to spend in the business.
  2. Be really cognizant about how much you can make those first couple of years as you build.
  3. Understand what you are good at and what you may have to hire someone to do for you.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I think to run your own business. You need to be okay with the risk. You also must be self-motivated and okay on your own. It can get lonely. Be realistic about how much money you can make.
