Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Crystal Uzquiano, owner of Tejasfit, located in San Antonio, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own a cross-training gym. We offer weightlifting classes as well as conditioning classes in a safe and supportive environment.

Tell us about yourself

I began working with my triathlon coach, and an opportunity arose where I was able to purchase his facility. I truly believe in the power of movement to bring people together and create a meaningful community. The physical, emotional, and psychological benefits of weightlifting can change a person’s life.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I have been able to cultivate an environment where women who have never lifted weights or been physically active have been able to reach their fitness goals.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner is knowing the right path. There is not a “boss” to tell you what to do, so all the responsibility lies with you.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The first thing a person needs to do is find something about which you feel passionate. Next, you need to discover how to fill a vacancy. What can you provide that people can’t find somewhere else? What pathway will take you to that place?

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Find a way to have fun and be yourself! Anything else is exhausting.
