Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Paul Croswell, Founder of Croswell Coaching, located in Columbia, SC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Croswell Coaching is a leading international coaching practice that specializes in guiding young executives to maximize their personal and professional potential through mindset coaching, fitness and nutrition coaching, and health coaching.

Tell us about yourself

I've always had a deep passion for helping people reach their full potential and lead more fulfilling lives. This has been the theme of my professional career. Whether as an independent record label owner with SONY, as a professional touring artist, or as a staff pastor at a large church, my focus, my passion... my motto was helping and inspiring others to achieve a more fulfilling life.

In 2020 when I published my book, Life Balance, it garnered international attention, which led to many requests for personal coaching. I already had many years of counseling, mentoring, and coaching experience, so I began exploring the idea of making professional coaching my full-time career seeking training and certification.

In due course, I launched Croswell Coaching and expanded it by bringing on a Fitness and Nutrition Coach and a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach. Allowing us to offer never-before-seen, rounded, and robust coaching packages with multiple coaches. We are now an international practice that provides top-quality support and guidance to young executives.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My greatest accomplishment as a business owner is watching my clients transform their lives and reach their full potential. One client in particular, Michael, a young executive, stands out in my mind. He was highly ambitious and had a successful career, but he often doubted himself and his capabilities. He struggled with negative self-talk and had a hard time trusting in his own decisions. In our sessions, we worked on cultivating a more positive mindset, and he learned to recognize and challenge his limiting beliefs. He adopted mindfulness practices and learned to be more self-compassionate and present in his life and relationships.

I watched as he transformed into a more confident and self-assured individual. Not only did he excel in his career, but he found balance in the significant improvement in the quality of his personal life. By the end of his 12-week coaching program, he regularly celebrated feeling more fulfilled and happy in his personal life.

This experience is a constant reminder of the power of coaching and the impact it can have on people's lives. It is the reason why I am passionate about this work and why I am determined to help more people reach their full potential. My greatest accomplishment as a business owner is a part of the transformation of my clients, and it has been the most rewarding and inspiring experience.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things I've had to overcome as a business owner was learning to trust my team and not treat my business like my "baby" by trying to do everything myself. In the beginning, I was extremely hands-on and was involved in every aspect of the business. Similar to how a first-time mother might protectively hover over her newborn. I found it hard to let go of control and delegate tasks to my team members. I was worried that they wouldn't be able to handle the responsibilities or that they wouldn't do things the way I wanted. But as the business grew, I quickly realized that I couldn't continue to do everything on my own. I was spread too thin and terribly close to not practicing what I preach as an active advocate for prioritizing Life Balance.

I started to build trust with my team, and I learned to let go of control. I began to delegate tasks and responsibilities to my team members, and I was pleasantly surprised by the results. My team stepped up and exceeded my expectations. Not only did they handle the responsibilities, but they also brought new ideas and perspectives to the table. Through this, I've anchored the importance of trust and delegation in a business. It's allowed me to focus on the areas that truly matter, and I'm a better leader for it. It was not easy to let go of control, but it was necessary for the growth and success of my business.

Now, as I lead by example, my team of coaches does the same. This was the hardest thing I've had to overcome as a business owner, but I wouldn't trade this lesson for anything.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Three ideas that have been pivotal to the success of my business that I'd encourage others to adopt are:

First, develop a clear and compelling vision for your business. A clear idea of what you want to achieve as a business owner and how you plan to get there is important. It helps you stay focused and motivated, and it will also make it easier to attract and retain your ideal customers.

Second, be adaptable and willing to pivot. The business environment is constantly changing, and the most successful entrepreneurs are those who are able to adapt and evolve as needed. When I launched Croswell Coaching, my mother-in-law suggested I get on TikTok, and while I was reluctant, I decided to take her advice. Now 80% of my clients find me on that platform.

Finally, learn to trust your team. As your business grows, it will become increasingly important to have a talented and dedicated team in place. Recruit the best people you can find and provide them with the resources and support they need to succeed. Trust your team members to handle the responsibilities you have delegated to them and create a culture of trust and collaboration.

This will help you to build a strong and efficient team that will work towards the success of your business. I hope this helps.
