Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in consultancy but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amy Cromer, Founder of Cromer Communications Co., located in Atlanta, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Cromer Communications Co. is a communications company that offers creating, writing, editing, and consulting services for businesses and individuals. My company offers services ranging from website copy, blog posts, email correspondence templates, marketing material copy, and service agreements to personal resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn Profiles, and essays. My client roster includes leaders in marketing, insurance, personal development, entertainment, hospitality, and more.

Tell us about yourself

I have always enjoyed writing, and ever since I can remember, people have come to me for editing. I couldn't tell you how many times I heard, "Amy, can you look over this and make it sound better?" In college, editing papers helped pay for my first semester of grad school. I graduated in 2016 with my Masters in Conflict Management after getting my bachelor's in Communication. I worked as an event planner in the hospitality industry for over a decade, yet I was still writing and editing everything from website content and social media posts to colleagues' individual emails. I thrived in events & hospitality, yet on a daily basis, I just could not escape writing and editing. After experiencing the various shifts of the pandemic, I made the decision to grow my business and recently started pursuing it full-time. I've always been a passionate and emotional person who is emulated in my writing and editing. I truly enjoy stepping into the perspectives of other individuals and businesses and writing in alignment with their brand and voice. Work for me does not feel like work; I absolutely love and enjoy what I do, and that is what keeps me going each day! My clients, their trust in me, and the opportunity to tell their stories.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner was when I officially began making more money than I was previously making in my corporate roles. Not only am I making more money, but I am the happiest and healthiest I have ever been in my life. I have total control over all the pieces, and having that control helps me remain aligned with my mental, physical, spiritual, and professional well-being.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest part of being a business owner is having total control of the business. It is beautiful to be able to fully manage my schedule and environment, but it can also be terrifying. It is by far the most rewarding part, but it is also difficult when facing challenges. That's part of the beauty in being a business owner, though; anything you're passionate about that truly makes your life better is worth going all in on. You will never regret going all in on yourself!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

To anyone looking to start a business... DO IT. Stop thinking about all the things that scare you and everything that can go wrong, and just jump into it. Start your business! To anyone running a business, take it all in each day. The little things, good, bad, beautiful, and incredible, are all a part of your journey and your business's story. To anyone looking to grow a business, ask for other people's advice. Whether it is messaging a connection on LinkedIn, local networking, or grabbing coffee with a fellow business owner, connecting with others will help you grow. We have all experienced the ups and downs of owning a business and want to be there for each other like others have been for us!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Just a reminder that we do not have to have it all together all the time! I often feel like I am supposed to have certain things planned and have all the answers, but it's okay when we don't!
