Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Courtney Harris, Founder of Recovery-N-Motion Physical Therapy + Wellness, located in Summerville, SC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a physical therapy and wellness company with a unique model that has successfully streamlined the relationship between healthcare providers, consumers, and finances. This allows the consumers to have more control over their healthcare. Our main focus is to get to the root cause of someone's aches and pains and not just treat the symptoms. Our customers are athletes, active adults, and youth.

Tell us about yourself

I have been a physical therapist for nearly 15 years. I am currently enrolled in a manual/sports medicine fellowship program to receive my FAAOMPT. This puts me in the top 1% of physical therapists! The concerning direction of healthcare has pushed me to start my business. Unfortunately, consumers lack control of their healthcare, which can cause a delay in progress toward reaching goals and recovery. Either I could continue complaining about it or be a part of the solution! My WHY motivates me every day! My future family is the catalyst in providing generations of wealth and paying homage to my ancestors, who suffered more than I will ever truly know.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Having an extremely successful first year in business as well as opening my second office only 4 months into the business.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

We are the experts in our craft; however, understanding the true essence of business was challenging (strategic marketing, your numbers/financials, systems, processes, etc.). Having a better understanding of business will overall make you more successful, have you make better decisions, and will afford you the time to continue to work ON your business and not only IN it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. START a business- Make sure you figure out what your WHY is as well as your personal and business core values.
  2. RUN a business- Ask for help! We are great at our craft; however, we are not experts in everything. This is the time to outsource and find those experts.
  3. GROW a business- Hire slow, fire fast! If you want to scale your business, you will have to hire. This affords you the time to work on your business and not as much in it.
