Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Corissa Saint Laurent, a Marketing & Business Development Consultant based in Tulsa, OK, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Through a podcast, speaking engagements, and in-person and online events, I guide people to a life of greater meaning, higher purpose, and true joy by connecting them to their deepest selves. Their soul self.

Tell us about yourself

I started my professional life in the healing and wellness space at the start of the new millennium. In 2006, I pivoted to marketing and business development with the launch of a marketing agency focused on events, edu-marketing, and public relations. I've always been driven to educate and help people and companies find what makes them shine. After an 8-year run within a corporation, I returned to entrepreneurship to offer training, speaking, and consulting services and to build my current brand. I'm driven by my love to help people reach their fullest potential and live their best life through practical wisdom from spiritual and mystical sources.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I've created a life I'm excited to live and share with others. I make a living doing what I love and helping others do the same. There's no greater marker of success to me than that.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Being a business owner takes courage and requires taking some risks. Having enough bravery and risk tolerance to create something new and picking yourself back up when you fail are hard things to do but are also the most rewarding.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Go within and ask yourself some deep questions about why you want a business, what you're passionate about and have the skills to accomplish, and what would serve the world in a way that's valued.
  2. Be flexible and learn from your mistakes. When you're too rigid about what you're going to offer, you're not necessarily listening to your market. If you're flexible with everything from your product to your delivery, you'll be able to adapt when you need to and not get trapped by perfection or procrastination (two sides of the same coin). As you make mistakes (which you will!), use them as opportunities for growth, and don't associate failure with who you are.
  3. Celebrate all your wins. Your big ones and your small ones. Being a business owner requires a lot of inner motivation and enthusiasm to keep going when the going gets tough. Recognize all the ways you're winning in business, from getting your website set up to your first dollar earned to landing your dream client and everything in between. The more you celebrate and bring joy into your business, the more you'll want to put in the effort and push through during the hard times.
