Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in cosmetics but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Corinne Haddad, founder of 1day beauty, located in Toronto, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

1day beauty is all about community-created & allclusive beauty. We like to think of our community as our brand stakeholders who help guide our product development process. It's always made sense for us to lead with conversation and ensure that everyone feels like they have a voice in our virtual room.

Tell us about yourself

Before venturing into 1day beauty, I was a student at the University of Toronto. I grew up with a visually impaired mother who loved all things beauty but was never made to feel welcome or represented by the brands she consumed. I saw a huge opportunity there to create that space and have a dialogue with our community about products, ingredients, & formulas. I get so much of my energy & motivation by engaging with our brand's community.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Scaling the brand as a self-funded entrepreneur is definitely something I'm proud of, especially with no prior beauty or business experience. It's also been fun to have earned press is Vogue, GQ & Byrdie.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest part about being an entrepreneur/business owner is that, while the highs and successes are incredible, the lows are really challenging & formative.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Pick an industry you love and position and establish yourself as an authority in that field. It takes time, but so does building a credible brand.
  2. Draw the competitive landscape of that industry/product, identify your point of differentiation, and tap into creating quality content to market to your ideal consumer.
  3. Be patient and fail often.
