Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Leslie Crozier, Owner and Instructor of Core Centric, located in Winnipeg, MB, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a boutique Pilates studio that specializes in private instruction and small group classes, taking a personal interest in our client's fitness needs. We have a wide range of clients, all with the goal of improving their wellness and improving their everyday life.
Tell us about yourself
I've always had a passion for movement. As a former dancer, I understand and appreciate the importance of movement in your body, specifically with Pilates. I ran private sessions out of my home for several years before opening Core Centric, when I realized that there was such a demand for it in this area. We have the best clients who continue to show up and support us, and they are the reason why we continue to show up for them. Our clients are more to us than a name or source of revenue- they instill their trust in us and share their lives with us, which creates a much more personal relationship.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
We recently celebrated our 6th anniversary and were also recently awarded Winnipeg's Best Pilates Studio for 2023 by the Quality Business Awards!
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Learning how to navigate the art of running a business! I don't have a business background, so there have been many learning curves and lessons learned, but I am stronger for it.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
First, be patient. Nothing happens overnight, and you need to keep showing up.
Second, make sure you're doing it for the right reasons. If you don't truly enjoy what you're doing or believe that it's possible, you likely won't see long-term success.
Lastly, take the time to find other business owners to connect with. They're a great resource to bounce ideas off of and encourage you in those tougher times. If you're able to, investing in a business coach will likely save you some time trying to figure out your next steps.
Where can people find you and your business?
