Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey by launching a consulting business, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Elaine Slatter of XL Consulting Group, based in Toronto, Canada.

What's your business and who are your customers?

For businesses who are just starting out, getting a web presence can be daunting.

We launch businesses online with webdesign and social media. We focus on startup companies that have never had any web presence.

Our services includes copywriting, content creation and designing freebie downloads and other calls to action to help businesses get found on the web. We provide full video tutorials so that our clients can maintain their own websites.

Tell us about yourself

I had a long Corporate career that mainly focused on all aspects of marketing for a large corporation. Many of these skills were transferable to small businesses that needed marketing help. Recognizing this led me to start my own company.

My focus has been on women-led startups because many women have great ideas but are not sure how to translate those ideas into a website or how to expand these ideas on social media. We created our online Fabulous Fempreneurship community to extend even more help to women entrepreneurs with mentorship, podcasts and a facebook group.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Serving the female entrepreneurial community by adding value, creating community and opening up my business network to help female entrepreneurs move forward to achieve their dreams.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Keeping your eye on all the moving parts of the business, ie making sure clients are the top priority, and are serviced on a timely basis and at the same time finding the right balance between work and personal time.

What are the top 3 tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

1) Be passionate about your idea but be realistic

2) Know your ideal clients and your competitors

3) Plan strategically by knowing your financial numbers

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Entrepreneurship is changing the world more than ever, as the "great resignation" movement is taking place in the corporate world.

Don't be afraid to take the plunge, but build a network of mentors and advisors who can help you.
