What's your business, and who are your customers?
construction2style is a home improvement lifestyle blog, full-service design + build interior residential and small media company. For over five years, we have been tearing houses apart and creating new happy spaces, not only for our clients but also for ourselves. We document it all from the construction side, to how to build a website, developing multiple streams of revenue, to how to build your brand.
Tell us about yourself
Hello! I am Morgan Molitor. Wife, mom of 3, designer, content creator, and co-founder of construction2style (c2s), alongside my husband, Jamie. MN-based but graduated from college in Long Beach, CA, with a fashion merchandising and marketing degree. Worked the corporate gig for over five years in fashion and marketing when I decided to take the leap alongside my husband and pour all of that creativity and knowledge into our own brand.
At c2s, I oversee all content creation, manage brand partnerships, am the writing guru, and lead interior design and stylist. I also head up our online education courses and in-house monthly marketing workshops.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I'm so proud of the team and family that we have built at c2s. In the last ten years, we've only had two employees leave us, and not once have we had to let anyone go. We hire based on characteristics, and we treat our team like family. They all work so hard for c2s and truly run this company like it's their own. They mean the world to us, and I couldn't be more proud of the people they have evolved to be and the team that we've all built and grown together with.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Disconnecting is probably the hardest thing to do for myself and my husband. construction2style is our baby, our brand, and our integrity that is on the line - so you can't let anything drop. You are always on. Additional constant challenges we face are cash flow, boosting our team's morale, client expectations, and the never-ending obstacles were facing with the current state of the world - it's all hard. And there's never enough time in the day when you're a business owner and wearing a million hats. Owning your own business isn't for the faint of heart!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Lean on your network, pivot fast, and trust your gut. And hire an accountant and branding expert!
