What's your business, and who are your customers?
We help people to understand the interconnections - we provide software (iMODELER), systems thinking, and consulting. Our customers range from large enterprises and international organisations to scientists and individuals.
Tell us about yourself
At university, they tried to tell me that there is a homo economicus. I searched for the WHY, discovered systems thinking and modeling, and a project that developed a decision support tool for everyone. The spin-off is Consideo.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
That's hopefully yet to come. The idea and the mission is to provide everyone with a tool to understand the interconnections. What we know now is that this requires people to seek this understanding rather than rely on their gut feeling or refer to the notion that something allegedly is too complex. Nevertheless, we are probably the first company that managed to reach a target group beyond experts for decision support tools. And on know-why.net, we have published many models that help to explain our complex world on topics like Ukraine, climate change, e-mobility, corona, etc.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
To stick to your mission. Quite often, people and projects suggested offering an expert's tool and making some sound money, but we still believe that our approach to offer an easy-to-use tool for everyone, from school children to CEOs, is pivotal to making the world a better place.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Well, there are two ways. Either you get the support of a big player who both gives you the network and the financial support, or you start with a small group of active customers that helps to grow your business organically. To start with just an idea without big or small support usually doesn't work.
