Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in arts but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Connie Luebbert, Owner of Connie Luebbert Artist, located in Longmont, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm currently running four businesses - my personal art business, Salann Magazine, 3Cs Art Collective, and Salt and Light Studios. My customers are mostly artists, buyers, and those that need help with anything graphic design - from branding, marketing, logo, print, web, etc.

Tell us about yourself

I started my graphic design business in 1999 simply because the starting salaries when I graduated were low, and I thought I could make more money through my own business. Now that my kids are grown and my time has freed up, I started painting again and created Salann Magazine to give artists a voice, along with 3Cs Art Collective with my two daughters, which helps artists sell their work through shows, popup shows, our website, and through connecting to buyers. It may be obvious that my passion is to support artists, encourage them, help them through marketing, help them sell their work, and support their goals.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The most necessary accomplishment for a business owner - is never give up. If it's a passion, never give up. If it's failing, pivot. Never give up. Also, supporting other artists and seeing their growth keeps me going.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The uncertainty of income, especially early on.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find your passion.
  2. Figure out how to implement it in a business.
  3. Never give up.
