Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jamie Taylor, CEO of Confete Party Box, located in Tacoma, WA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Confete Party Box is a self-funded, women-run company specializing in curated gift boxes and virtual party boxes that make your clients and team members feel special — and make you look like the boss you are. We cater to businesses, but our gift boxes and virtual party boxes are anything but corporate. Our bold, vibrant gift box options and full-service gifting services empower you to make gifting a part of your relationship marketing and customer retention strategy without sacrificing your brand standards or adding 10 more items to your to-do list.

Tell us about yourself

I had always dreamt of owning my own business. I took the leap after helping design and plan a friend's wedding, and from there, I started an event planning company. I ultimately wanted an e-commerce company, so we launched a party-in-a-box shop that sent Instagrammable party supplies to customers. When COVID hit, we shifted our approach to celebratory gift boxes that focused on connections and bringing people together to celebrate the small wins in life.

Entrepreneurship definitely keeps you on your toes, and that is partially what motivates me, along with an ever-changing day, but more importantly, having the opportunity to help people make more meaningful connections and reading the notes that are left on the handwritten cards are what motivates me to keep going.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Honestly, there are so many, but I would say pivoting during COVID to stay in business and then being featured in the New York Times were major moments so far.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Wearing multiple hats and being able to turn "it" off. It can be difficult to know what to focus on when there is so much that needs to be done.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just get started; it will never be perfect.
  2. Make sure you have a marketing strategy in place and know who your ideal client is.
  3. Be nice to yourself and track your wins. When things get tough, which they will, your mindset can be a major blocker. Reviewing your wins and your why can be great motivators during those times.
