Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lindsey Myers, Founder of Concrete Blonde Consulting, located in New York, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Concrete Blonde Consulting is a full-service public relations firm. The firm services companies, including B2B and B2C tech, professional services, hospitality, and non-profit clients. We’re passionate about helping our clients to increase market share and enjoy working with purposeful accountants that strive to help move humanity forward.

Tell us about yourself

I founded Concrete Blonde Consulting in November 2016 and have since been named one of the “Top 15 PR Agencies in New York” by The Manifest and one of the “Top 10 Best PR Agencies” by Web Surf Media. A communications expert and entrepreneur, I have over fifteen years of experience in NYC and the Hamptons luxury market. In 2018, Insights Success Magazine named me one of the “30 Most Innovative CEOs” of the year.

I graduated from Boston University with a BS in Communications and a concentration in Public Relations. I began my career at WordHampton Public Relations, a firm headquartered in East Hampton, NY, and ranked by Jack O’Dwyer’s as one of the country’s “Top 100 Independent PR firms”. Recognized as a strategic leader, I’ve earned a track record for counseling clients, including Fortune 500 companies such as NAPCO Security, Inc., to increase profits, manage brand reputations and gain market share. In 2013, I became an equity partner and was chosen to launch the company’s NYC division.

Professional, confident, and well-respected by my peers, I have also been a guest lecturer at several universities, including Hofstra University and Saint Joseph’s University, possessing a presence people often find unforgettable.

I founded CBC with the aim of allowing myself the freedom to delve into other industries of interest, such as activism, sustainability, technology, aerospace, and healthcare. As I continued my career, the media became a vehicle for my belief in humanity, my curiosity, my passion for entrepreneurship, my patriotism, and my business ethics.

During the pandemic, I moved to The Outer Banks, where I continued my journey and also began strategic media consulting for a class action real estate lawsuit. It was during this time that my passion for justice — both legal and social was reignited. In June 2021, I returned to the Buckeye state with a move to Cleveland, Ohio, to reunite with loved ones and remember my roots.

I continue my consulting career remotely with both national and international contacts and look forward to expanding my horizons with new opportunities. I also serve as President of the Board for the non-profit Mind, Body, Soul, Survivor helping victims of sexual assault, and on the Steering Committee for St. Mary’s Children’s Hospital.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is always helping to lift others up and raise awareness (and sales) for their companies. A rising tide raises all ships.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The personal growth that comes with overcoming fear, that I believe, is unique to all business owners. Everyone has different fears; however, being an entrepreneur forces one to work through them to be successful.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start by hiring a solid accountant and lawyer, and make sure to have a solid foundation for your business.
  2. Get a line of credit and build a relationship with a local bank.
  3. Hire a diverse staff of top talent. Your people will greatly impact your success.
